You begin your choice of the 2022 Chevy 5500 with a design that works for you, and Chevy has several utility upfits available to choose from such as a utility body, dump truck and stake body. Our chassis cabs are designed with a stout single-piece frame rail to provide greater durability. There is also a broad range of cab-to-axle designs for many upfits with clean top of rail configurations to make upfitting easier. The chassis are painted to protect against corrosion, and you can get an available rear air suspension if you need it for your upfits. Additional features include a large capacity fuel tank that holds up to 65 gallons and a Power takeoff (PTO) left hand access that will allow upfitters to draw auxiliary power from either side of the transmission.
Power to Do the Work
The 2022 Chevy 5500 models are equipped with a Duramax 6.6L Turbo-diesel V8 engine coupled with an available Allison PTS transmission that will support shuttlebus and nonconforming school bus configurations with a locking rear axle to provide additional stability and off-road responsiveness. Keeping your 5500 in great working order is easy with designs that allow access from engine cover to wheel cut, such as the forward tilting engine cover and wheel design with a wheel cut of up to 50 degrees. An accessible battery box is easy to get to with an available jump start stud below the driver’s side of the cab. A diesel exhaust fluid fill is wisely placed on the right fender behind the front wheel for easy fluid refills.

Chassis cabs are built with a downward-sloping hood to give excellent visibility to the driver, such as the 2022 Chevy 5500.
