Why Do You Need an Alignment?

A wheel alignment, also referred to as a tire alignment, is necessary when your wheels not aligned properly to prevent excessive wear on the tires. It also becomes important to prevent steering issues.
A wheel’s alignment refers to how the tire hits the pavement and how it is situated with the suspension system. When your wheels aren’t aligned, they can impact performance and efficiency while allowing for a rougher ride.

When Do You Need an Alignment?

A wheel alignment becomes necessary anytime your wheels are angled incorrectly. You may not notice a problem just by looking at the wheels, but a service technician can check the measurements to know if an alignment is needed.
You can notice signs of a vehicle being out of alignment:
  • The car steers off to one side as you’re driving.
  • The steering wheel moves off-center and doesn’t go back when you release it.
  • The steering wheel is harder to control when traveling in a straight line.
  • The tires show uneven tread or even wires along the edge.
If you notice any signs that your wheels are out of alignment, schedule service with Harry Brown’s.

Getting Your Wheels Aligned

When you bring in your GM, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or RAM vehicle, the service team at Harry Brown’s will test the alignment. They check three areas on the vehicle. The camber area is inspected from the front of the vehicle to see if the tires tilt inward or outward instead of straight ahead. This issue most often occurs when the vehicle has been in an accident or if the ball joints and wheel bearings are worn down.
The second area is the toe alignment, which is checked from above. The tires will turn in or out if the toe is out of alignment. When this area needs aligned, it can be an indication that the tires weren’t properly inflated or rotated as recommended by the manufacturer.
Caster alignment is the third area, which is the angle of the steering axis. The technician tests from the side of the vehicle and should be straight instead of angling inward or outward.
If you suspect that your wheels need to be aligned, you can call us or go online to schedule an appointment for service. Bring your vehicle in and relax in our waiting area or drop it off and take the shuttle to your home or office while we work on the alignment.
