If you are operating around Lakefield, Owatonna, or Northfield, come by Harry Brown’s and let us check out your vehicle for maintenance and service.

Oil Change Services

Changing the oil in your vehicle may be the single most important thing you can do to extend the life of your engine. Oil keeps your engine running smooth and help clean and cool your engine. Most manufacturers recommend getting an oil change every 3,000-6,000 miles, but check your manual for specific manufacturer recommendations.
When you go for oil change service, there are some other items that can be checked in relation to your vehicle operation.  The following items should be checked and/or replaced at every oil service:
  • Change oil and filter.
  • Rotate the tires or at the first sign of irregular wear even if it occurs before oil change times.
  • Inspect engine cooling system protection and hoses.
  • Inspect exhaust system.
  • Inspect engine air cleaner if using in dusty or off-road areas, replace cleaner filter if necessary.
  • Inspect battery, clean, and tighten terminals as required.
  • Inspect the CV/Universal joints.
  • Inspect automatic transmission fluid if equipped with a dipstick.
  • Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, hoses and park brake.
  • Inspect front end and lubricate – if equipped with serviceable fittings.
  • Inspect and replace the Evaporative System Fresh Air Filter as necessary, replacement may be more frequent if vehicle is operated in dusty off-road areas.

Additional Inspections

Other Inspections that should be performed periodically include the following:
  • Annually or every 15,000-20,000 miles inspect and replace wipers if needed.
  • Every two years (or every 20,000 miles) Inspect front suspension and tie rod ends and replace if needed. Also, inspect the front and rear axle surfaces to check for gear oil and axle fluid leakage, and change as needed. Inspect brake lining and parking brake function.
  • Every three years (or every 30,000 miles) replace engine air cleaner. Inspect transfer case fluid and change if needed.
  • Beginning at year 3 (or every 30,000 miles) and then going out every six years, replace automatic transmission fluid.
  • At least every 100,000 miles, replace spark plugs unless problems occur prompting it earlier.
  • Flush and replace engine coolant at 10 years (or 150,000 miles).
  • Every 10 years (or 100,000 miles) inspect and replace PCV valve if necessary.
